A Day of Championship Boxing at Athletics & Beyond

The day began with weigh-ins for the fighters competing in the tournament. Some boxers arrived right at their target weight, while others had to work to meet the mark.
At 1:00 p.m., the event opened with the national anthems of the United States and Mexico, and the first bout followed immediately. Over the course of the afternoon, 23 bouts took place, and every one of them gave the crowd something to cheer about.
The building also welcomed a distinguished group of guests, including former NFL players and political figures. Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas attended, along with many members of the Aurora Police Department. Aurora Fire set up a booth and spent the day connecting with the community. Seeing first responders and neighbors build relationships together was one of the highlights of the event.

Fighter Spotlight: Luis Maza
Luis Maza, who trains at Athletics & Beyond, controlled all three rounds against his opponent with sharp jabs and well-timed combinations. He is a fearless competitor who never backs down from a challenge. His performance showed the value of the work he puts in with Coach Lyle Burse at our facility.
